Nokia N73 mobile phone

Jotkut ovat kysyneet minulta, että eikö kojuissa istuminen ole tylsää. En ole ollut kojuissa läheskään niin paljoa kuin Arto, Jari ja Markus, mutta tänä vuonna paljon enemmän kuin aiemmin.

Kuvauspiilo voi olla pieni teltta, jossa voi kyhjöttää vain yhdessä asennossa tuulen puhaltaessa sisään ja ulos, ympäristöä ja kuvaustapahtumia on vaikea nähdä, ja oikeastaan vain odottaa, että pääsisi pois. Kuumuus voi olla paljon pahempaa kuin kylmyys, johon voi varautua etukäteen. Mitä enemmän juo sitä enemmän pissattaa. Olen vain kerran ollut kojussa, jossa oli käymälä (karhukoju). Parhaat piilot ovat kuin pieniä mökkejä, joissa on kunnon ikkunat noetusta lasista tai peililasista. Bence Maten peililasipiiloista ei ole mitään vaikeauksia nähdä ulos. Monissa muissa kojuissa täytyy olla jatkuvasti hankalassa asennossa nähdäkseen ulos. Pieni piilo voi olla hyvä, jos siinä voi maata ja nukkua, kun väsyttää (yleensä kojuihin täytyy mennä öisin, jotta eläimet eivät näe kuvaajia). Parhaimmissa kojuissa ilma kiertää niin, etteivät ikkunalasit huurustu, tuoli on hyvä istua, ulos on helppo nähdä, kuvattavaa on paljon, eikä kukaan tule kuvauspaikalle sattumalta.

Olipa koju millainen hyvänsä, tylsää ei ole, jos seurattavaa ja kuvattavaa riittää. Aika rientää eikä lämmityslaitteen haju tai jäykkä niska häiritse. Ikävintä on odotella pitkän päivän päätteeksi pimeän tuloa, että pääsee pois. Joskus siivotessani jälkiäni olen huomannut, ettei minun olekaan tarvinnut olla piilossa yksin, vaan että seuranani on ollut kuolleita hiiriä ;)

Viikonkuvan olen ottanut Bence Maten tilavassa puunlatvakojussa Kaakkois-Unkarissa kätevällä Nokian N73 kännykkäpuhelimen kameralla. Tuulihaukka pesii lasin takana sille laitetussa pesäpöntössä.

Some people have asked me if it is boring to stay for a day or two in a hide. I have't spend at least so much time in hides as the others of our team, but this year much more than earlier.

Hide can be only a small tent where one can only sit in one position, wind comes in and out, it is difficult to see what happens outside, and you only wait to get out of there. Beside coldness and wetness the heat can be awful. For the cold it is possible to prepare, but not for the heat. The more you drink the more you need to pee. I have ones been in a hide with a toilet (bear hide). The best hides are like small houses with good windows with sootclass or mirrorclass. From Bence Mate's hides with mirrorclass you have no difficulties to see out, but with most other hides it is more or less hard. At least you have to stay all the time in bad poses. A small hide can be nice if it is possible to lay down and sleep if tired (usually it is nessessary to go into the hide at night so the animals can't see you). In the best kind of hide the air goes in and out, glasses don't get steamy, chair is good to sit, it is easy to see out, there is lot to photographe, and nobody will come to the place accidentally.

No matter what kind of hide you stay in it is not boring if there are things to follow and photographe. Then times goes fast and you don't care so much of the smell of the heater or your hard neck. The most boring thing can be the wait for the darkness to come and to get out of the hide. Sometimes I have found out in the end there have been some friends with me, dead mice ;)
